Harry Potter star and U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador, Emma Watson, explained Monday that half of the world is missing and uninvited to the feminist movement–men. She wants to change that.

HeForShe poses an invitation to men for a solidarity movement for gender equality. Watson says the word “feminism” has become synonymous with “hating men,” which is not true.
“Gender equality is your issue too,” Watson says addressing men. “It’s about freedom.”
The goal? To have 100,000 men agree to the #HeForShe commitment because gender inequality is not only a women’s issue, but a human rights issue, according to the HeForShe website. So far, they have already met that goal with 124,345 men signing the agreement all over the world since the organization’s launch this week.

“We don’t want to talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes but I can see that they are. When they are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence,” Watson said. “If men don’t have to be aggressive, women won’t be compelled to be submissive. If men don’t need to control, women won’t have to be controlled.”
Watson urges men and women to take action on this cause to try to eliminate gender inequality all over the world–together.
