San Diego food finds: Straight into Hillcrest

The neighborhood of Hillcrest is where you can find the best eateries in San Diego. I’ll be referring back to this vibrant neighborhood quite often but for now here are some of the best.

Under $10

Snooze Café 3940 5th Ave Breakfast and Brunch Cafe

This popular breakfast café serves every breakfast staple and incredible original creations. They are only open until 2pm so it is best to wake up early to beat the crowds.

Oscar’s Mexican Seafood 646 University Ave Fully Loaded Tacos and Burritos There are about four of these fantastic taco shops across San Diego, serving some of the city’s finest fish tacos. What the Hillcrest location lacks with floor space, it makes up in sensational taste.

Bronx Pizza 111 Washington St Thin Crust New York Style Pizza

If you are looking for authentic New York style pizza, this is the place for you! Buy per slice or purchase a full pie. Place your order before you arrive because there is no parking available. Cash only.

Under $20

Lefty’s Chicago Pizzeria 3448 30th St. Deep Dish Chicago Style Pizza

If deep-dish pizza is more your style, then be prepared to dive into these colossal pizzas. Voted one of the best deep-dish pizzerias in town, Lefty’s thick and succulent pizzas are immensely satisfying.

Hash House A Go Go 3628 5th Ave Breakfast and Brunch

Another breakfast nook nestled into Hillcrest; this is more of a traditional breakfast restaurant. Everything is served in large portions and the omelets are why I keep coming back for more.

Burger Lounge 406 University Ave Gourmet Organic Burgers

This famous California burger chain serves all natural grass-fed beef that rivals the likes of The Habit and Hodad’s.

Golden Dragon Asian Bistro 414 University Ave Chinese/Thai Fusion

Let it be known that this is the only Asian restaurant open until the wee hours of morning. I cannot stress enough how delicious roast duck and chow mein noodles taste at 1:30 in the morning.

Chocolat 3896 5th Ave Designer Desserts

Picture Extraordinary Desserts trading out their cakes for gelato, hot chocolate and coffee and you have an idea of what Chocolat has going on. They also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items that are just as good as their desserts.
