PLNU freshman Isabella Ofsanko died in a car accident Oct. 11 after the car flipped five times and fell into a ditch, according to the OC Register.
The OC Register reported that Ofsanko died at 10:22 a.m. on Sunday at the scene on Bolsa Chica Road in Orange County.
On Oct. 12 at 2:35 p.m. the Vice President of Student Development Mary Paul sent out an email to the student body addressing Osfanko’s death.
“We are sad to share the news that a PLNU freshman Isabella Ofsanko died yesterday [morning] in a car accident,” Paul wrote. “Our community is deeply grieved at this sudden loss. Prayers for her family and friends were shared in chapel this morning.”
Several students even expressed their thoughts about Osfanko’s death on social media.
Junior and Physics major David Graham shared his thoughts about her death on the PLNU Class of 2019 page.
“…I don’t know you, I never met you, I don’t even know what you look like. Yet I can feel the emptiness that your absence has left,”Graham said. “The many somber faces around campus, those truly effected by your loss on a much greater scale then I could ever feel…”
Sophomore Cecilia Holmquist, who is currently studying abroad in France, heard about Osfanko’s death and expressed her feelings in a Facebook post.
“…When I heard about the sudden death of a student and how much the campus has become almost silent with grief, I feel the sadness that has ensued throughout as those who knew her mourn and still others who didn’t are just as well weighted with a sadness on their hearts…,” Holmquist said.
PLNU students gathered at 10:30 p.m. in front of Klassen Hall for prayer on Oct. 12.
On Oct. 13, ASB put a banner in the living room of Nicholson Commons for people to write their notes and prayers about Osfanko’s death and it will be sent to her family.
