On Wednesday, April 9, at approximately 4 p.m., paramedics responded to an accident on Sunset Cliffs near PLNU’s campus.
According to San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Greg Buchanan, a 35-year-old male was climbing down the cliffs to the beach using a rope when he slipped and fell. The man, whose name was not released, was airlifted from the cliffs by 4:35 p.m. by helicopter and was taken to UCSD Medical Center.
“His friends were with him. They called 911 for us,” said San Diego Firefighter Joe Zakar. “Community people, that normally go down there to surf, have a rope that’s tethered and helps you down to that part of the beach. The rope is fine, he probably just couldn’t hold his bodyweight with his hands.”
The 35 year old was in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, including a broken leg.
