The best of Tuesday’s storm

Tuesday afternoon, a lightning storm hit the Point Loma cliffs just off campus. Various buildings on the cliff side – Rohr Science, Campus Facilities, Golden Gym, Bond Academic and Public Safety were without power. It started to rain for about 15 minutes.

The women’s soccer game was ruled a ‘no contest’ after the lightning didn’t subside after 30 minutes time in their game against UCSD. The team was down 1-0 when the game was cancelled. Some of the classes in Rohr Science were also cancelled.

Three emergency notifications were sent out to inform students of the power outages and that no effect or changes were made to classes or work schedules. By 9:41 p.m., the power outage still continued. The update said that by 6:00 a.m. the next morning the issue would be solved. At 6:17 a.m., Public Safety sent out an email stating that the main campus had power by 3:25 a.m.

Here are some photos of what the storm looked like off campus from Melanie Voigt.
