PLNU students record ‘All About that Bass’ cover

It all started last summer when junior music major Monique Sanderlin wanted to record a cover. So, naturally, she started trying to get involved in recording by asking her musically talented friends to help her.

Junior Everett Lewis was just that person. He would later accompany Sanderlin on her cover by playing the piano under her vocals. He is also a music major.

After deciding on the summer hit, “All About that Bass” originally by Meghan Trainor, Sanderlin and Lewis worked with audio engineer and junior James Bishop to lay down the track.

Then, they – along with friend and junior media communication major Ross Nederhoff – spent last Saturday filming around San Diego. Nederhoff remembered when he first saw Trainor’s video and it only had 100 hits. He said that seeing the video is what made him want to help out.

“The song communicates some really important ideas about body image, which is something we all want to make sure people get a chance to hear,” Nederhoff said.

After filming and editing in quick succession, Nederhoff can’t wait for people to see the video.

“I was just so excited to finally share it with everyone, so I stayed up way too late and got up way too early to make sure I could do that as soon as possible,” Nederhoff said. “Anyways, now it is out there for the world and we are excited to hear what people think!”
