Take a festive study break this week and enjoy Christmas: San Diego style. Here’s our list for some fun and free Christmas events happening this week.
Garrison Street Lights, crossroad at Chatsworth
Take a nice nighttime stroll with your friends down Garrison Street and sip on that Starbucks hot chocolate as you enjoy the most magnificent street light display in Point Loma. If you’d rather drive down the street, be sure to blast Christmas music to dance off those long hours of studying.
San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
Celebrate Christmas the Bay way. See boats decorated better than most houses on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. on Shelter Island. If you’re feeling up to it, Seaport Village is a great place to view as well, although it is difficult to find parking.
Old Town Las Posadas
To remind yourself of the true meaning of Christmas, take part in the Las Posadas procession in Old Town at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. The candlelight procession is a walking reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for a birthplace for Jesus. The procession includes singing holiday songs in both Spanish and English and will end with a viewing of a nativity scene and a choir performance. This event is also easy to get to with the off-campus shuttle.
Gaslamp Holiday Pet Parade
This parade is the ultimate Christmas miracle for the dog lovers of Loma. Spend a delightful afternoon on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. at MLK Promenade Park downtown watching dogs in ugly sweaters wag past.
Walk Around the Hotel del
Hotel del Coronado is a wonderland of its own at Christmas time. Walk around the hotel and check out the inside to see the spectacular two-story Christmas tree. You can also ice skate by the beach for $30 per person.
