San Diego can be a hard place to get into the fall spirit with the unchanging weather, but there are ways to welcome the season and get into the autumn mindset. October is here and so are the fall festivities. Here’s how to welcome fall:
Pumpkin Patches: There are over 10 different pumpkin patches in the San Diego area and most of them have free admission. These are fun, cheap and easy places to welcome the fall season. Find friends to go with, take a hayride, take cute pictures and buy a pumpkin or two for decoration or pumpkin carving.
Fall Candles: For those PLNU students who live off-campus, the smell of fall can always be in the air. Fall scented candles can bring the smell of autumn trees, pumpkin, cranberry or other various fall scents to any home.
Haunted Houses: Not everyone likes the adrenaline of being scared, but for those who do, haunted houses are a great way to welcome fall, especially in October. Halloween is a few weeks away, and some students might want to get their scare on. This fall festivity may be a little pricey, but for adrenaline junkies, it may be worth it.
Pumpkin Spice Lattes: The Pumpkin Spice Latte is among the most popular seasonal fall drinks. PLNU junior sociology major, Megan Felter, says, “Pumpkin Spice is like fall in a cup.” This drink is offered at numerous coffee shops around San Diego, so go get a taste of fall by getting an iced or hot Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Sweaters: Fall is a time to embrace the “sweater weather.” It gets a little cooler as the season goes on, and Kyera Franklin, PLNU sophomore child development major, says, “sweaters make fall feel more like fall because it makes me feel warm and cozy.”
Fall Decorations: These can make any place more festive. Fall décor can liven up a room to give the perfect autumn setting. Fall decorations can be found almost anywhere such as Target, TJ Maxx, Ross, Home Goods or even a dollar store. As an added bonus, people can keep these decorations up for the months of October and November.
Fall Colors: The Pantone Color Institute has recently come up with a list that ranks fall colors including the following colors: red pear, ceylon yellow, martini olive and russet orange.
