“Be Humble. Sit Down.” Kendrick Lamar managed to sweep the night away with the most achievements received at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Lamar, also known as K-Dot, has been around the music scene since 2010, but didn’t catch the attention of rap music lovers until the release of his album “good kid, m.A.A.d. city” in 2012, putting him on the map as the next up-and-coming rapper. With seven Grammy awards under his belt since 2015, this year held a lot of promise for the artist to release an album.
“If I quit this season, I’ll still be the greatest…” Predicting his own future, the artist dropped his number one single, “HUMBLE.”, in his 2017 album. Although The Point intends to avoid the usage of profane language, we are not quite sure how to get around this one. The title of his album that came out on March 30 of this year is called “DAMN.”. The song went on to climb the music charts as well as becoming what seemed to be the song of the year.
“My left stroke just went viral…” Lamar was nominated in eight different categories at this year’s VMAs, including Video of the Year. He walked away with six out of the eight awards he was nominated for; this would be the most awards won by an individual for the evening.
“Right stroke put lil’ baby in a spiral…” The artist also took the stage to perform his songs “DNA.” and “HUMBLE.”. It was a performance full of excitement that got the crowd riled up and out of their seats.
“Its levels to it, you and I know…” Lamar puts tremendous amounts of work into everything he does. Whether it be his work, his production, or his visual performances, the man truly has a wide range of talents. He proved this to us all when he took several different titles at this year’s VMAs. He left the night with awards for Best Hip-Hop Video (“HUMBLE.”), Best Direction (“HUMBLE.”), Best Art Direction (“HUMBLE.”), Best Cinematography (“HUMBLE.”), Best Visual Effects (“HUMBLE.”), and Video of the Year for none other than his number one song off of his top selling album to date, “HUMBLE.”.
“I don’t fabricate it, most of y’all be fakin’…” Lamar is far from done with his music and continues to leave fans and listeners in shock with his new approach to spreading knowledge about controversial issues, mainly focusing around racism issues. The artist is looking towards a bright future ahead and the music world is waiting to see what he will do next. The artist has also been taking his “DAMN.” album on tour. 2018 holds a lot of promise for Kendrick “K-Dot” Lamar.
