What Type of Exercise Can You Do in the Dorm?

The “Freshman-Fifteen” can be hard to kick, especially if you can’t seem to find the motivation to get on over to Golden Gym. Luckily, there are few easy workout ideas that you can do right in the confined space of your dorm.

Yoga

Yoga is one of the easiest options for a quick workout in the dorm. You can do it even if you don’t have a yoga mat—a towel will work! There are lots of options on Youtube for workouts anywhere from five to 45 minutes long. Some accounts with videos for people of all levels of experience are: Yoga With Adriene, SarahBethYoga and Boho Beautiful.

Pushups, Squats, Lunges

These types of workouts are easy to fit into your already busy schedule. Do some pushups while you’re waiting for the shower to warm up, or some lunges or squats while brushing your teeth. Each little bit counts!

Core

Strengthening your core benefits many aspects of your life—less risk of injury, better posture and improving back pain. These exercises include: planks, sit-ups, leg raises and side planks.

There are also recreational classes on campus for yoga, circuit training and strength and conditioning.
