Valentine’s Day Activities

Wondering how to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year? Whether you are Cupid’s biggest fan or think the holiday is just an excuse to eat some chocolate, there are so many ways to make Feb. 14 a great day.

Date Night! This is an obvious suggestion. If you are in a relationship and hoping for that ring by spring, treat your significant other to a nice little outing. Some local spots that are sure to impress include Officine Buona Forchetta in Liberty Station, Cesarina off of Nimitz Blvd. and Old Venice Restaurant near Shelter Island. After dinner, you can take a scenic stroll around this beautiful peninsula and top off the night with ice cream from the many nearby creameries.

Or, if you are looking to keep to a budget, set up a picnic date with all of your favorite snacks. A quick and cheap Trader Joe’s run for charcuterie necessities, cookies and drinks, matched with a stunning view equals a perfect, low-key Valentine’s Day together. Some great picnic spots are Sunset Cliffs right below campus and McCullough Park.

If you’d rather have “Galentine’s Day,” one great way to celebrate the holiday is to watch a rom-com. Bonus points if it is from the ‘90s. Grab your favorite PJs and gather around in your dorm room or apartment for a cozy night in.

To really up this movie experience, what better to do than make heart-shaped pizzas and chocolate-covered strawberries for dessert? Ingredients for the fun and yummy craft can be bought at any grocery store in the area.

Lastly, if you’ve got a big group of friends who can’t agree on a movie, get outside and enjoy each other’s company. One way to make this day extra special is to set up a bonfire on the beach. Each person is in charge of bringing the food they love the most, creating a pot-luck-inspired meal. Not only is this a way to celebrate the holiday, but it also gives you a chance to share your favorite foods with your favorite people… isn’t Valentine’s Day all about love after all? Who said it has to be romantic?

Whatever your plans may be, choose to show the people who mean the most to you just how much you love them. Buy yourself some flowers and chocolate and start planning your Valentine’s Day with your loved ones.
