Point Loma Singers put on a Heart Warming Show

On Friday March 24th, the Point Loma Singers held their Homecoming Concert in Crill Performance Hall at PLNU. This was their first appearance at PLNU since their trip to Europe performing in various churches and cathedrals. Keith Pedersen, PLNU professor of music and choir conductor, directed the concert. The show started with the performers walking out into the aisles singing the festive “Shout for Joy” by Dan and Heidi Goeller, followed by “Exsultate justi in Domino” by Brant Adams. In between the songs individual members took a moment to share their favorite memory and what they learned from their recent performance tour. Kaleah Yearwood, junior marketing major at PLNU, said of the next songs they performed, “Lux Aurumque” by Eric Whitacre is her favorite. “The song brings me to a very spiritual place. When I sing it I feel closer to God. We have been practicing for the show since the beginning of the semester. It feels really good to be back singing for people here on campus,” said Yearwood. During the intermission they showed their photos from Europe and included images of Holland, Germany and Denmark. They also showed different cathedrals they visited like the Roskilde Cathedral in Denmark and Zaanse Schans in the Netherlands. After the intermission the concert resumed with “Miniyama Nayo” by Paul John Rudoi. After, all of the students took a moment to introduce themselves. For the next song the singers invited past PLS members on stage to sing their anthem. The last song of the night was “Music Down in My Soul” by Moses Hogan followed by cheers and applause from the audience. Rachel Preleyko, sophomore music education major at PLNU, said, “A lot of my friends were performing in the show and it’s always great to hear them sing because they get better every year and they sing with so much emotion.” PLNU professor of literature Dr. Bettina Pedersen said, “It was great to hear about the joy of the people in Europe and have them share it with us here on campus.”
