Jim Skalman grew up in San Diego and decided to come teach art full time at PLNU in 1993. Skalman taught classes that included drawing, painting and sculpture since he first arrived on campus and now his large multi-media installations have been exhibited in many solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, and other museums nationally and internationally.
“Being given the privilege of teaching art at PLNU has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. Every time I drive onto campus I have a feeling that is close to what I feel when I stand in front of a great painting. It’s a very special place. Beautiful in many ways—not just aesthetically. I think that has to do with the Spirit moving among the people here.”
Doug Fruehling has been a librarian at PLNU since 1992 and has taught students research skills they could use in the classroom. Before coming to PLNU Fruehling was at MidAmerica Nazarene University for three years.
