We are on the final countdown, ladies and gents. That’s right. Summer is a week away. My inner Troy Bolton has been chanting “summer, summer, summer” since February. (If you didn’t get that High School Musical 2 reference then I’m afraid that you should read no further, friend).

Now I know that with finals coming up and summer break looming in the background, it’s hard to imagine spending another day here at Point Loma. But I think we can all agree that when July hits, we’ll be itching to come back to sunny San Diego. With that in mind, I encourage you to soak in these last few days. Spend time with the people you love and make lasting memories. And keep this thought in your back pocket: never again will this group of people be together in the exact same way that they are today.

Bottom line: enjoy it.

If you’re a senior whose feelings of leaving Loma are a tad bittersweet, or if you’re a freshman looking to make some last minute connections, or if you’re anything in between, look no further. This checklist will ensure that you complete every “Loma” thing there is to do before May 3.

1. Get your final “Cali Burrito”

It’s a tale as old as time: the battle of the burrito shops. Whether you’re an Ortiz’s aficionado or an Adalberto’s connoisseur, we can all find common ground on the fact that San Diego houses some of the best burrito joints, and you better enjoy it before you have to hit the road.

2. Go Surfing/Skating

An obvious step, yes, but an important one. Especially for those (like me) who haven’t surfed ONCE since coming to school here. Is that even allowed? You tell me. And if surfing isn’t your thing, grab a skateboard/longboard/penny board and ride to the nearest coffee shop or smoothie hub. You’ll be glad you did.

3. Hot Tub Hop

If you’re feeling a little risque then you should hit up some nearby hotel’s hot tubs. The 100 degree temperatures and steamy jets will give you the relaxation you need before finals. Keep getting kicked out of tubs? Check out the Hyatt hotel in downtown. The pool and the multiple jacuzzis can be found on the fourth floor. They make it almost too easy to sneak in. Don’t tell em’ who sent ya.

4. Take The Campus Shuttle

Maybe do it for the nostalgia? Do it for the sweet, sweet torture of not knowing when you’ll make it to the Target on Sports Arena Boulevard? Do it just one last time? I don’t know. It just seems like something you’ve gotta do.

5. Go To A Concert

While this doesn’t seem like the most critical thing on the checklist, it is one of the more fun ones. The band Passion Pit is playing a concert on Wednesday, May 1 at the North Park Observatory. Now I know what you’re thinking: that’s the middle of finals week! And you know what I say to that? Yeah. You’re right. But how iconic would it be to go to a concert when you have a physics exam the next day? Pretty iconic.

6. Make Plans!

Pretty soon, PLNU will be empty. You won’t be able to see your best friends and your incredible professors everyday. So that means, you’ve gotta make some plans! Budget yourself this summer and find the cheapest flights, train tickets, boat rides, etc. to get to where you need to go! And if a trip isn’t really in your cards right now, write letters. There truly is nothing sweeter than a handwritten card. Let your friends know how much you miss them and how you can’t wait to see them again.

7. Say Your Final Goodbyes

During these final few days, please enjoy yourself and make the most of what time you have left. Don’t forget to bid farewell to the folks around you and be grateful for what this campus has offered you. Late night cramming, early morning surfing, sunset chasing, and so much more. To the seniors, you will be missed. Remember Loma with love and cherish the memories made here forever.

To everyone else, see ya in August.
