Best Gyms to Join in San Diego Over Summer

With summer less than two months away, the journey to get the perfect beach body is in full force. Here are three gyms that will make your workout out a little less gruesome and are offering some of the top deals in San Diego.

Dan McKinney Family YMCA (La Jolla):

The Dan McKinney YMCA in La Jolla is one of the most beautiful gyms to work out at. They have an upstairs weight room, as well as a separate cardio room next to it. If you were to walk outside on the top floor, there is a balcony with a turf carpet where you can stretch, work out abs, etc.

Looking over this balcony, you get a beautiful view of the two pools they have, a kid’s area with water structures, a baseball field, a basketball and racquetball court, and a separate turf field where you can work on things like sprints and flipping heavy tires. There are also courts where you can sign up to play basketball and volleyball.

The best part about this gym? There is an ocean view from the balcony, just like what we have at PLNU. The Dan McKinney Family YMCA also offers a variety of classes such as dance, cycling, and yoga so that you can find the ones that are the most fun for you.

Memberships start at $47 a month for adults, but there are opportunities for a free one-day trial if you want to go ahead and check it out. Their hours of operations are Monday-Thursday 5:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., Friday 5:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

The Dan McKinney Family YMCA is located at 8355 Cliffridge Avenue, La Jolla, CA 92037.

Jackie Robinson YMCA (Southeast San Diego):

The Jackie Robinson YMCA is a newly remodeled gym, with brand new machines, courts, and fields.

The upstairs part of this facility is where all the working out takes place. There is a weight room area with enough workout machines to where you never have to wait for someone to finish using a certain machine, and they even have a rectangle turf area with sleds on it to work out with. The cardio machines are on the opposite side of the weights area, with plenty of treadmills and ellipticals to use. The brand new court at this gym is incredible, and if you like basketball, there is a high school, college, and NBA three-point line on the court to help you gauge your shooting range.

The best part is that these courts are typically pretty empty, so go gather some friends with YMCA memberships and run some games. Memberships are $47 a month for adults and there are free one-day trials. Their hours of operations are Monday-Friday 5:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., and Sunday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The Jackie Robinson YMCA is located at 151 YMCA Way, San Diego, CA 92102.

Chuze Fitness (Mission Valley):

Chuze Fitness in Mission Valley is one of the cleanest gyms I’ve found with a ton of state-of-the-art equipment as well as circuit machines that put together a 30-minute workout for you.

The have 80+ machines for cardio and 45+ for strength training as well as a turf area to train on. They also offer classes like yoga, Zumba, and kickboxing.

A Chuze Fitness membership starts at only $9.99 per month, where you have unlimited access to the free-weight and turf areas. For just $20.00 per month, not only will you have access to the free-weight and turf areas, but you will also have free tanning and hydro massages, the sauna, and an unlimited amount of classes.

They also offer a seven-day free trial pass if you would like to try to get a feel for the gym before potentially investing in a membership. Their hours of operations are Monday-Thursday 5:00 a.m.-12:00 a.m., Friday 5:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

This is the gym where you will definitely get the most for what you are paying, and it is only 15 minutes (8.2 miles) away from the PLNU campus.

Chuze Fitness Mission Valley is located at 1233 Camino del Rio S, San Diego, CA 92108.

With all of these deals and amenities, it’s hard to make up an excuse to not go to the gym. So good luck and have fun finding the gym that is right for you.
