Coffee, Coffee

It’s in the caf, Bobby B’s, Breakers Market, and if it’s not in your dorm, it’s probably in your neighbor’s.

Coffee surrounds PLNU, and caffeine consumption among college students is quite common. An article in The American Journal of Health Education says, “The National Coffee Association reported that in 2007, 37% of 18-24 year-olds drank coffee, an increase from 26% in 2005.”

Outside of PLNU’s campus, there are several popular coffee shops for studying or a caffeine jolt.

Breanna Seshun, a kinesiology major, says OB Beans Coffee Roasters is her favorite. Seshun says she enjoys OB Beans because they have great service. “They also have snow cones there which are really good,” she says.

Jayne Bauer, a communications major, says Better Buzz Coffee is the best. She says her favorite drink is called the Best Drink Ever, and she likes it because it has a lot of caffeine. Aliza Holmes, an Education major, also goes to Better Buzz because they have oat milk. She says the only milk alternative she doesn’t mind paying extra for is oat milk. She also appreciates the drive-through because it is a “one and done type of thing.”

Presley Olivas, a communications major, prefers Moniker General. “Moniker is nice for an eight dollar latte, but it’s worth it,” she says. She claims that they make the best iced almond milk latte. “They always play good music in there,” Olivas says. “Moniker is more of a study place.”

Besides Bobby B’s, Peet’s Coffee is the closest coffee shop to PLNU. It is 0.5 miles from Brown Chapel, which is an 11-minute walk or a 3-minute drive. There are two Starbucks locations on Rosecrans Street, and three in Liberty Station.

Coffee is available across the city of Point Loma. Whether you prefer to stay away from coffee or enjoy spending hours in different coffee shops, you will likely pass multiple when making a short drive in San Diego.
