Does your fantasy team need help? Have you lost a key player to injury? Every Wednesday, I will bring you the top sleeper picks for the upcoming week in fantasy football that could positively influence your matchup, along with some players that could sink your team if you make the mistake of playing them.
Last week, I told you to not play Jeremy Kerley if Kaepernick got the start, so I’m letting myself off the hook for that pick. C.J. Spiller was less than stellar. My duo pick of Dak Prescott and Cole Beasley paid off, with Dak getting 26.4 points (NFL.com Standard Scoring) and Cole getting 17.8 points. Jay Ajayi went off for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Sammie Coates failed to receive a pass, and Tyrell Williams had just 28 yards, so my bust picks were solid.
Sleepers
Hunter Henry (Tight End – San Diego Chargers): Part of Henry’s success these last few weeks has been his ability to find the endzone. This isn’t always the best indicator of a solid fantasy player. What sells me is he is getting a solid amount of targets, and has an average of 70 receiving yards over the last three games.
Cole Beasley (Wide Receiver – Dallas Cowboys): A carry-over from last week, Beasley is still a vastly underrated player, especially considering that he is Prescott’s favorite target. The Cowboys have a bye this upcoming week, but if you need a wide receiver until the return of Tony Romo, Beasley looks solid.
Kenny Britt (Wide Receiver – Los Angeles Rams): I am always hesitant to put a member of the Rams on a sleeper list, especially a member of the passing game. However, Britt has gotten a solid number of targets. He will obviously come down a bit from last week’s performance of 136 yards and two touchdowns, but I am expecting a solid performance from Britt against the New York Giants next week.
C.J. Fiedorowicz (Tight End – Houston Texans): I am putting two tight ends on my list this week because the position has been so shallow this year. Fiedorowicz doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but it appears that he has become a solid target for Brock Osweiler. The last three games he has scored over 10 points twice, and scored six in the other, which is about all you can ask for from a tight end this season.
Marcus Mariota (Quarterback – Tennessee Titans): Play the hot hand at quarterback, especially when the hot hand is playing the Colts. That defense has shown that points can be put up on it in a hurry. More than that, Mariota has thrown for six touchdowns the last two weeks and I expect him to keep rolling next week.
Busts
Lamar Miller (Running Back – Houston Texans): Obviously a drop-off at some level will happen after the kind of game Miller had against the Colts last week, but expect it to be huge. The Texans go to Denver and play the stingy Broncos defense and I expect Von Miller and Co. to shut down the run game.
Brandin Cooks (Wide Receiver – New Orleans Saints): I have one rule when it comes to Saints players not named Drew Brees: stay away at all costs. It’s a good rule, and has helped me in the past. The reason is that Brees loves to get the ball to a different guy every week, which leaves his wide receivers as unreliable fantasy options. So heed my warning and stay away.
