A table set for me.

All prepared, He waits,

for His “guest of honor.”

Bread broken and wine poured

no portion perished

every plate stays warm in anticipation.

I come and I sit.

He smiles.

“Child, for now we can delight,

that you have chosen your place at my table.”

“Rest in the provision of this meal.

For from my love, I have provided it,

there’s nothing for you to bring.

Rest and take the portion.”

So I ate the bread,

and I drank the wine,

danced barefoot in the candlelight of the feast,

and fell asleep–

when it was all done–

comfortably at His feet.

Even in my repose,

the bridegroom’s song still thumping

through the chambers in my chest

A “thank you” still bounding on my lips.

Amen
