Best-selling author Mitch Albom returned to Point Loma Nazarene University for a second interview with Dean Nelson, journalism professor, director and founder.

A bonus interview for the Writer’s Symposium by the Sea in partnership with Warwick’s Books, the event took place on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Crill Performance Hall. It was a sold-out event.

San Diego’s Ed Kornhauser welcomed guests to the event, playing oldie tunes on the piano, including “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears.

Albom began the event with a presentation for the audience, including what he’s learned throughout his life, from his first hit novel, “Tuesdays with Morrie,” his charity organizations, to his recent novel “Twice.”

“I think Mitch Albom is one of the more profound observers of human beings and of the human heart, and not just observer, but he can actually articulate what goes on in the human heart, as well, if not better than most people,” Nelson told The Point.

During their interview, the main message Albom relayed regarding “Twice” was that while most people might wish to have a second chance at certain moments in life, Albom suggested that he wouldn’t accept the option if it meant giving up the scars, or lessons, of his mistakes.

“I wanted them [the audience] to have a sense of being committed to being more intentionally loving in the world. If that’s what they got out of my interview with Mitch Albom, then that was a successful interview,” Nelson said.
