Fang-tastic Things to do This Spooky Season

Halloween falls on a school night this year, but don’t lose hope because there are several opportunities for you to celebrate the holiday. If you’re a fan of all things spooky, here are some activities that will get you in the Halloween mood.

Pumpkin Patches like the PB Pumpkin Patch, the Pumpkin Station in Mission Valley and Mr. Jack O’ Lanterns Pumpkins in La Jolla are open late on Halloween night. Nothing says “I had exams and forgot it was Halloween,” like a last minute trip to the pumpkin patch, right?

Halloween Hike Spook-tacular, hosted by PLNU Outdoor Leadership, is a night hike happening on Halloween, October 31. Price is $5. For more information, check out pointlomaoutdoors.com. Even if you’re not an avid hiker, go for the candy!

Wicked, the renowned Broadway musical, is coming to the San Diego Civic Theater from October 31st to November 25th. This musical transports the audience to the Land of Oz before Dorothy came along. Tickets are available for purchase on broadwaysd.com.

Old Town San Diego’s Día de Los Muertos celebration, happening November 1 to November 4, runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., featuring face painting, food, music, and more. Taking place in Old Town, these four days celebrate the culture, history and heritage of Mexico, Latin America and the San Diego area. Let’s be real, combining Mexican food and spooky season could be life-changing.

Fall Fest at Belmont Park runs the entire month of November, Friday through Sunday, from 5 p.m. to closing. In addition to the theme park’s signature roller coasters, free pie eating contests and entertainment are also available. Yay, for free things because, you know, tuition.

Movies! The AMC at Fashion Valley is currently showing “Halloween,” “Venom,” “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” and more. If you like to get spooked and the raccoons on Caf Lane just aren’t doing it for you, these movies have you covered.

Finally, the community surrounding our campus is worth an honorable mention considering their recurring openness to trick-or-treaters over 18. Who says we’re too old to grab a pillowcase and go snag some free candy? All the sugar can just be a substitute for your daily dose of caffeine. We are college students, after all.
