The Commuter Lounge, located on the 1st floor of Nicholson Commons, is more than just a casual hang out spot for commuter students. It is also space where all cultures are celebrated and differences are embraced.
MOSAIC (Multicultural Opportunities for Students Actively Involved in Community) is home to eight multicultural groups who host weekly meetings and welcome students to engage across various cultures.
Black Student Union (BSU)
A club striving for education and celebration of their culture, BSU engages students weekly (Thursdays 6:30 p.m.–7:30p.m.) through interactive meetings with deep discussions. Junior biology major Darlene Jones says the club is “known for real conversations about things and events occurring in the black community.” @plnubsu
Asian Student Union (ASU)
Boba runs are a casual activity that ASU participates in during their biweekly (Wednesdays 6:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.) meetings. “ASU is a club for any PLNU student interested in learning, exploring and celebrating the many Asian cultures,” states Senior nursing major, Alexis Empleo. This group welcomes you to bring your curiosity and appetite. @plnuasu
Association of Latin American Students (ALAS)
Coming together to celebrate and share their culture, ALAS meets biweekly (Thursdays 8:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.) to raise cultural awareness of their community. Senior sociology-criminal justice major, Saul Hernandez-Salgado tells students to look forward to “Carnaval Latino, a time to celebrate the Latin culture during International Education Week.” @mosaicalas
Hui O’ Hawaii
Bringing the Aloha spirit, Hui O’ Hawaii meets biweekly (Tuesdays 6:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.) with the goal of creating a home. Junior social work major, Janessa Koons says the group’s mission is to “create a ‘home away from home’ for all students and share our unique spirit through fellowship, music, hula dancing and our exquisite foods.” @hui.o.hawaii
Team Barnabas
Through this mentorship program, Team Barnabas walks with first-year students of color through their transition at PLNU. Junior nursing major, Alissa Greenlaw shares how they are, “looking forward to seeing what God is going to do as we live and grow alongside each other in mentorship!”
Uniting National and International Students Through Education (UNITE)
Connecting cultures from around the globe, UNITE provides a social outlet to international students and other various groups as they transition into U.S. culture and society. Senior nursing major Sarah Keung states “we meet once a month (Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.) to engage in different cultural experiences by visiting restaurants, catering food and sharing stories.” @plnu_unite
Beauty. Revival. Equity. Action. Knowledge (B.R.E.A.K)
Focusing on gender equality on campus, B.R.E.A.K. meets biweekly (Tuesdays 7:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.) to host conversations on empowering women and masculinity. Junior business communications major, Bella Pasley, says, “Anyone is welcome to join and participate or listen– we [value] different views and opinions brought to the conversation.” @plnubreak
Delta Alpha Pi (DAPi)
International Honor Society, Delta Alpha Pi meets biweekly (Mondays 6:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.) to raise awareness and support those with disabilities.
