5 Galentine’s Day Activities

Valentine’s Day is not just a day to celebrate romantic relationships, but a day to celebrate love in all forms. Some of the most meaningful relationships in our life are the ones we have with our friends. Galentine’s Day, which is celebrated on Feb. 13, is a day to celebrate female friendships. Here are a few activities that you can do with your favorite gals this year or to plan ahead for next.

  1. Picnic

Picnics are easy, enjoyable and affordable. Here in San Diego, there are a multitude of perfect picnic spots located both on and off campus. Some picnic location ideas include Kate Sessions Park, Shelter Island or Sunset Cliffs. Picnics are a great opportunity to enjoy good food and nice weather with friends. Julia Bhwarani is one of many Point Loma Nazarene University student who celebrated Galentine’s Day with a picnic.

“For Galentine’s Day, I helped put together a charcuterie picnic with my friend Juliana and we just made it an open invite, hoping that people would come to meet new friends and connect with old ones. We ended up gathering with fifty gals, from all different grades and majors, and it was such a sweet time of fellowship and lovin’ on each other,” Bhwarani said.

  1. Movie Night

Movies are a great way to unwind and enjoy time with others. Movie nights allow you to get comfy and relax, which is one of the best ways to hang out with your friends. You could even put on a romantic comedy to celebrate the day of love.

  1. Baking/Potluck

Another sweet Galentine’s Day activity is baking, especially Valentine’s day inspired treats. Or, have each friend make their favorite dessert or dish and have a potluck. This is a great way to engage with friends, both new and old. Clubs and sports teams across campus are hosting their own get-togethers. For example, PLNU Break, the gender and equality club, hosted their own cookie decorating event on Feb. 14.

  1. Beach Day

While this may seem obvious, it is easy to become so busy we forget that the beach is right there. As the weather warms up, grab a towel and some snacks and go get some sun with your best gal pals.

  1. Game Night

Games are another simple way to connect with friends and strengthen relationships. Card games such as We’re Not Really Strangers allow you to get to know others on a deeper level through asking and answering introspective questions.
