10 Things To Do When Your Concert Gets Cancelled

“We were honestly in shock and disbelief!” Sophomores Carly Stevens, a biology major, and Hannah Floyd, nursing, recall as they got word from friends that their concert plans were unraveling just a few hours before the event was to begin.

Several PLNU students were also caught in this storm, as the news quickly spread via email and word of mouth that the Rascal Flatts Concert at the Mattress Firm Amphitheatre in Chula Vista was canceled due to illness.

With life being so unexpected, it is great to have a backup plan in case of an emergency. To help out my fellow schoolmates, here is a list of 10 things to do when your concert plans get canceled!

1. Boba and Game Night at Tea N More

If you are looking for some delicious boba and classic board games to enjoy with your exceptional company, Tea N More is the place for you. Open late and located in Kearny Mesa, this hip coffee and tea shop is ready for you to join in on the fun!

2. South Bay (Drive-in Theatre)

Relax under the stars as you enjoy the latest box office hits at the drive-in theatre. This retro theatre is open seven days a week and plays several movies throughout the evening!

3. MadHouse Comedy Club

For some authentic laughs and hysterical jokes, the MadHouse Comedy Club is the place for you. Located in the heart of Downtown SD, this 18+ comedy club will have you cheered up in no time!

4. Sweet Spots in Downtown

Explore downtown San Diego while also getting a feeding your sweet tooth! With options like Salt and Straw Ice Cream, Cheesecake Factory, Donut Bar and the Melting Pot, downtown is the place to be!

5. Late Night Ocean Swim and Burritos at Ocean Beach

Cool off with a late night ocean swim and burritos at Ocean Beach. Follow this up with a bonfire and your night will be complete!

6. Belmont Park at Mission Beach

Head up to Belmont Park, next to beautiful Mission Beach, for a night of rides and attractions, delicious food and fun prizes!

7. Dave and Busters

Awaken your inner child with a night of arcade games. Senior christian studies major, Cesia Velasco, finds that “When all else fails, Dave and Busters is the place to be!”

8. Balboa Park

With beautiful buildings, historical museums and live shows, Balboa Park always has something going on and is ready for you to join in on the excitement! “Art After Dark” at the San Diego Museum of Art is free for college students with ID, Fridays 5–8 p.m.

9. Tour the Hotel Del Coronado

Take a drive over the magnificent Coronado Bridge to visit the Hotel del Coronado. Walk around, grab a bite to eat and discover all that Coronado has to offer!

10. Watch Planes Land at Laurel Airport Parking

Feel the rush and thrill of the planes landing from Laurel Airport Parking —located in Downtown along the airplane path. Junior psychology major, Sammi Mrowka, says it is “a beautiful place to take pictures and [a] relaxing place to hang out with friends.”
